retreat and 1,000 gifts.

Two weekends ago, I had the opportunity to attend the Pastor’s Wives Retreat of the Southeastern District. I was super apprehensive to go, even up to the morning of. I didn’t know any one, I didn’t know where I was going, I didn’t know what we were going to be doing. But boy, am I sure glad that I went. Hindsight is 20/20, right?! There was no need for me to feel apprehensive or worry about it because right off the bat, I met some wonderful women of God and had the opportunity to grow with them in faith.

Here are some pictures of the place where we stayed for the weekend in Richmond.

HUGE wasp that was in my room to greet me upon my arrival.

The theme of our weekend was Nehemiah 8:10 — The joy of the Lord is my strength. We spent the weekend in devotion, discussion and celebration of that verse and the gift of joy.

I was also introduced to Ann Voskamp. (If you have never heard about her CHECK HER OUT HERE: http://www.aholyexperience.com/)

We learned about Ann Voskamp’s 1,000 gifts — Eucharisteo — Grace, Joy, Thanksgiving. While hearing of her trials and tribulations, we saw how she found joy, Jesus’ joy, in the little things in her life. One friend challenged her to write down 1,000 gifts. She accepted, and around 4,100 gifts later, she is still going strong and is spreading the word to seek joy in every day life. We created Gratitude Journals and made each month until next April, starting on May 1st — I am set for a while!

Here is a sneak peak at my journal:

May 1st is quickly approaching and I have been counting down the days, since I returned from the retreat, until my journal (journey) begins!

All in all, the weekend was fantastic. Not only did we celebrate joy, but I was able to form connections with current and former Pastor’s Wives. I received great advice and encouragement as M and I are beginning our journey in ministry together.

A million thank you’s to the faithful women who made this retreat wonderful!
