One of the many benefits of being the Pastor’s wife (and the Deacon of Edu.) is that I get to help out with confirmation at our church — and spend quality time with some quality middle schoolers 🙂
M handles the instruction, we’ve started with the Creed and are working our way through Luther’s Small Catechism. As we build our curriculum, there is usually a worksheet or handout to go along with his portion of the night, which the confirmands put into their interactive notebook. After M’s instruction is over, I get to do some sort of activity with the group to reinforce what M has taught.
I really enjoy coming up with activities to share with them! Activities we have done so far include praying in color, blind drawings, water colors and active listening. These pages also go into the confirmands’ notebooks so at the end of their time with the group, they will have a journal full of their work and something to look back on after confirmation is over 🙂
Here are some examples of work we have done together:
water color of the 1st Article of the Apostles’ Creed
active listening of the Te Deum with a lyric WordCloud
Baptism scrapbook page
Activities like this are right up my alley and I enjoy sharing new ideas and ways to create with them 🙂 I can’t wait to continue working and planning with M to create a quality experience for these special middle schoolers!
